Great Weather for Hiking!

Sunday afternoon the temperatures were in the 60’s, and David and I decided to go hiking, just the two of us. It was kind of strange for us because for 27+ years we have pretty much always had some of the kids with us when we go hiking of camping. We tend to only go hiking when we can make it a big family event. For some reason, Lisa doesn’t seem to get too excited about going hiking with just Mom and Dad. As a result, we don’t get out hiking very often. Of course, when Matthew is around we seem to go hiking or on other excursions much more often. We have often referred to him as our “Family Adventure Coordinator.” Anyway, David and I have figured out that it is time for us to start venturing out on our own again before we get too old to go hiking at all. We had a great time, even though we just went out for a few hours. The first place we visited was War Eagle Mill. We stopped there because of a hidden geocache that we wanted to find. It is hard to believe, but David said that he has never been to War Eagle Mill. After stopping and locating the cache at the mill, we went on to Hobbs State Park. Neither of us had ever been there, although some of our kids have backpacked there on the Pigeon Roost Trail. We hiked the Shaddox Hollow Trail and even found another geocache.

  1. Allison and I wanted to go hiking on Sunday, but we just couldn’t afford to. We had to use the time for homework. = (.

  2. Well, you did manage to post something, Mom. You’re right that the posts’ words are smaller and perhaps a different font, but I can read it. And the rest of the blog still looks normal.

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever been to War Eagle Mill either, but maybe I have. I think it’s coming back to me. Do you see the mill when you go to the craft fair? Is it right near the entrance? Because I know I went to the craft fair once.

  4. Yes, Susan. The mill is right by where they have the craft fair. I know that I ate lunch there one time with Mother when we went to the craft fair.

  5. Was I one of the “kids” you went hiking with on the island of Kuai? I still like to go hiking, but I have no one to go hiking with.

  6. No, when we hiked at Kuai, I was “one of the kids.” That was a “family event”, just not a big family event. Maybe you will have to come hiking with David and me again sometime. We don’t have to travel all the way to Hawaii to hike either.
