Weekends Are Great!

The past week seemed especially long, even though we only had school four days.   I have continued to get to school early and walk and find that I am looking forward to spending the time listening to the podcasts.  The ipod makes it easy to know how long  I have been walking since I can check to see how long the podcast has been going.  I have almost run out of all of the podcasts I have downloaded, so I have been on itunes hunting for more things to download.   I decided to try some John Piper next week.  Let me know if any of you have some other good suggestions.

As you can guess from the title of this post, I am enjoying the weekend.  They are just always so short!  Usually weekends involve doing a lot of housework, but since I thoroughly cleaned house on Monday, I have not had to do a lot of cleaning today.  I have yet to get much school work accomplished, but keep planning to get started just anytime now.  I need to grade at least a few papers before I begin cooking dinner.  Speaking of dinner, I decided that since the weather is much warmer (in the upper 40’s) that we should take advantage of it and cook some chicken outside on the grill.  Of course, it is easy for me to plan because David usually does the grilling.  I don’t have to worry about getting too cold myself; I just hate to ask him to do it if is really cold outside.

This afternoon David and I went to see an early afternoon matinee of “The Bucket List.”  It was recommended to me by James after he and Allison went to see it recently.  It was a pretty good movie that made you think about what is important in life.  In the movie it was said that the Egpytians believed that your entrance into heaven was based on how you could answer two specific questions.  The questions were, “Did you have joy in life?” and “Did you bring joy to others?”  Those are both pretty good questions to ponder.  The movie also emphasized the importance of family relationships.

  1. I’m glad you guys liked the Bucket List. Although it was a cliche movie, I thought that it brings up some classic life questions. Of all the John Piper material I’ve listened to, I would recommend starting with the fairly recent Marriage series he did, entitled: “Marriage, Christ, and Covenant: One Flesh for the Glory of God.” You should be able to find it under [Sermons/By Series]. It’s not that long of a series, but it’s very good, and VERY convicting. Watch out.

  2. Thanks, James, for the recommendation – I’ve been meaning to download some of these and listen to them while I’m feeding horses in the mornings and just haven’t gotten around to it. This may make me jump right on in since I actually have something specific that’s been recommended. I’ll let you know what I think.

Good job, mom on the walking – it is going to be really good for you to get in that cardiac/impact work regularly every week, though I’m sure you’ll be glad when the good weather comes back so you can go outside and not do so many laps. I had fun getting to walk with you the other morning, so hopefully, I’ll get to do it again.

  3. I’m glad you’re enjoying your iPod.

I downloaded some music on mine to run with, but I haven’t run in over a week, what with going to NY City and it being so cold here. Today should be nice, though.

Glad you liked Andy Stanley! I may listen to the John Piper series as well. I’ve listened to a few of his sermons now, too.
